Euphoria Star Reveals They Were Almost Fired for Filming Series "While High"

Euphoria has pleasantly surprised HBO with its success over the years, largely due to its diverse and talented ensemble cast. As fans eagerly await the third season of the show, one of its recent cast additions has opened up about their personal struggles during filming. In a recent interview with Apple Music, Dominic Fike, who portrays the character Elliot, revealed that he battled substance abuse while working on Euphoria. Despite his difficulties, Fike disclosed that the producers "had to" include those particular takes in the show's final edit.

"I was in a really bad place during a significant portion of that show. It was truly challenging," Fike shared candidly. "I faced consequences for my behavior, and there were moments where I almost got removed from the show. They told me, 'Dude, you can't continue like this.'"

Acknowledging his struggles, Fike acknowledged, "I was grappling with addiction, and entering a show that primarily revolves around drugs made it even more difficult." He added, "But that's the nature of the entertainment industry, my friend. They offer you a significant amount of money and essentially say, 'Figure it out, sink or swim.'"

Fike's revelations shed light on the personal challenges he faced while working on Euphoria, highlighting the complexities of his journey and the demanding nature of the industry.

Is Euphoria Renewed for Season 3?

HBO officially renewed Euphoria for a highly anticipated third season in February 2022. Set to premiere in 2025, this upcoming installment is expected to feature a significant time jump, adding a fresh dynamic to the series.

Costume designer Heidi Bivens expressed her commitment to ensuring the success of the show's third season in an interview with Vogue earlier this year. Bivens eagerly awaits the scripts, stating, "I'm really excited to read them. There have been discussions about the season taking place approximately five years in the future, with the characters no longer in high school. It's like Dorothy not being in Kansas anymore. It could be a mind-bending journey. With Sam's visionary mind, it's bound to be thrilling and a challenge for all of us, as he always strives to offer something new and avoid repetition. It will be a fresh experience for the audience to uncover and explore."

Is Barbie Ferreira Returning to Euphoria?

During an appearance on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Barbie Ferreira, who portrays the character Kat in Euphoria, disclosed that she would be departing the show after two seasons.

"I felt [it] was a kind of a struggle for both parties. Sam, me — it was a struggle to find a continuation of her," Ferreira revealed. "That was actually really hurtful watching and seeing the fans get upset. I don't know. I just felt like maybe I overstayed my welcome a little bit. So for me it actually felt good to be like, 'OK, I get to not worry about this and we both don't get to worry about this,' because Sam writes for things he relates to. I don't think he relates to Kat. I relate to Kat. So I had to follow my own path."
