Fullmetal Alchemist Announces New Stage Play

It has been quite some time since the Elric Brothers graced the screen in their animated adaptations, as the Fullmetal Alchemist anime has been absent for years. However, fans can rejoice as a trilogy of live-action films based on the beloved manga by Hiromu Arakawa has recently been released in Japan and subsequently made its way to North America. These films once again bring the alchemists to life in the "real world." And now, there's even more exciting news for Fullmetal Alchemist enthusiasts: a new stage play has been announced to retell the incredible tale of Edward and Alphonse Elric.

Fullmetal Alchemist continues to hold its place as one of the biggest anime franchises globally, and rightfully so. The story of the Elric Brothers and their journey to save themselves from an alchemy experiment gone awry raised profound questions about the world at large. In the upcoming stage play, set to open next year in Japan, we will witness the second live-action adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's alchemical universe. Interestingly, this play will feature some returning cast members from the original production, including actors Yohei Isshiki and Ryota Hirono, who previously portrayed Edward Elric. In Japan, it is common for stage plays to cast multiple actors for a single role, and Fullmetal Alchemist follows suit in this regard.

Fullmetal Alchemist Returns

The official Twitter account for the upcoming stage play has confirmed that the saga of the Elric Brothers will once again come alive on stage in 2024. Fullmetal Alchemist will be brought to life through a captivating performance, featuring not only the return of beloved actors but also the director from the first play. Sachiko Ishimaru, who directed the original production, will be at the helm once again, crafting the script and directing the enthralling series of performances in 2024.

Although a sequel or spin-off for Fullmetal Alchemist has not been officially confirmed, Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of the renowned anime franchise, has been actively engaged in other projects. Arakawa is currently immersed in her latest manga series titled "Daemons of The Shadow Realm," which has recently been released in North America after its success in Japan. While an anime adaptation for "Daemons of The Shadow Realm" has not been announced, it wouldn't be surprising if the captivating world of the Daemons eventually graces the small screen.
