Ms. Marvel Set to Air on ABC for Broadcast Television Debut

It has been announced that Marvel's Ms. Marvel will make its broadcast television debut next month.

According to TVLine, the series, which originally premiered on Disney+ last summer, will air on ABC in August. All six episodes of the Marvel Studios show will be presented, marking the first time that one of Marvel's Disney+ series will be broadcast on television. The first three episodes are scheduled to air on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT, with the second half of Season 1 following the next week on Saturday, August 12, also from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The TVLine article suggests that this could be the start of a trend, with more streaming titles potentially making their way to television due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. As the strikes impact various productions, networks may seek to fill airtime gaps in the fall by featuring shows that would have had missing content. While this marks Marvel's first venture into broadcast TV with its Disney+ content, it's worth noting that ABC previously aired the pilot episode of The Mandalorian. Additionally, CBS has aired episodes of Paramount+ shows like Star Trek: Discovery, and NBC brought Peacock's The Resort to broadcast television.

Ms. Marvel, based on Marvel Comics characters, was developed for Disney+ by Bisha K. Ali. The series stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, a teenage fan of Captain Marvel who gains superpowers of her own. The cast also includes Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Laurel Marsden.

While rumors and reports of a second season for Ms. Marvel have circulated, Disney+ has not officially greenlit Season 2. However, there are more appearances to come from Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is set to reprise her role in the upcoming film The Marvels, scheduled for release in theaters on November 10, 2023. Ms. Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have expressed their hope to return for a second season, sharing on Instagram last year, "Just reminiscing on our time spent in the MCU... who's ready for season 2?!"

Ms. Marvel can currently be streamed on Disney+.
