The long wait is finally nearing its end, as a new season of Black Butler is currently in development and scheduled for release next year!

Crunchyroll, during their special panel at Anime Expo 2023, took the stage to generate excitement for the upcoming anime releases on their streaming service. Among the announcements, they revealed that a new season of Black Butler is in the works and will premiere in 2024. Instead of being a reboot, this new season will continue the story from where it left off. To tantalize fans, Black Butler unveiled an exhilarating trailer (which you can watch in the video above) and a captivating poster, providing a first glimpse of what to expect from this fresh take on the timeless anime.

What to Know for Black Butler Season 4

Black Butler's highly anticipated new season has assembled a talented team to bring it to life. Kenjiro Okada has been chosen as the director for studio CloverWorks, while Hiroyuki Yoshino will take the role of head writer. Yumi Shimizu will lend her artistic skills to design the characters, and Ryo Kawasaki will compose the captivating music. Exciting news awaits fans as the first two returning members of the voice cast have been confirmed: Daisuke Ono will reprise his role as Sebastian Michaelis, and Maaya Sakamoto will once again voice Ciel Phantomhive.

Promised as a continuation of the original anime rather than a complete reboot, now is the perfect time to catch up on the series. The first two seasons of Black Butler are currently available for streaming on Hulu (and all three seasons can be found in Funimation's library), while the Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic movie is now streaming on Crunchyroll. As for what to anticipate from this beloved anime series, Black Butler is teasing its return with the following:

"Ciel Phantomhive is the most powerful boy in all of England, but he bears the scars of unspeakable suffering. Forced to watch as his beloved parents were brutally murdered, Ciel was subsequently abducted and violently tortured. Desperate to end his suffering, the boy traded his own soul for a chance at vengeance, casting his lot with the one person on whom he could depend: Sebastian, a demon Butler summoned from the very pits of hell. Together, they'll prowl the darkest alleys of London on a mission to snuff out those who would do evil."
