Nintendo Switch's Next Major Game on Sale Before It Even Releases

The next highly anticipated release for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED is set to arrive on July 12. Prior to its release, the game is available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop, offering a 25 percent discount. Instead of the regular price of $19.99, players can secure a digital copy for just $14.99. It's worth noting that pre-ordering means committing to the game before reviews are published, with a limited chance of refunds if the game proves to be disappointing. However, the likelihood of the game being bad is minimal.

The mystery game in question is Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, the highly anticipated sequel to the surprise hit game from 2016, Oxenfree. Developed by Night School Studio, the same team behind the original game, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is published by Netflix, which acquired the studio in 2021 as part of its expansion into the gaming industry. The sequel is set to launch on July 12 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile platforms. While playing the first game is not required to enjoy the sequel, it is said to enhance the overall experience.

According to the official description on the Nintendo eShop, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals follows Riley, who returns to her hometown of Camena to investigate enigmatic radio signals. However, she uncovers more than she bargained for as strange electromagnetic waves disrupt electronics, including TVs, planes, and radio stations in the coastal town. Reluctantly drawn into the mystery, Riley must unravel the secrets of Camena and confront unexpected challenges.

On the Nintendo Switch platform, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is expected to occupy approximately 3.4 GB of storage space. The game will support all three modes of play: handheld, tabletop, and TV mode. Players will have a wide range of language options to choose from, including Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

While Oxenfree II: Lost Signals may not be the biggest release in the gaming industry this year, it is certainly one of the more notable games arriving in July. In fact, it is the only semi-notable game hitting the Nintendo Switch until July 21, which is when Pikmin 4 is expected to release. Whether or not the sequel will live up to the anticipation surrounding it remains to be seen.

It's worth mentioning that Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is a single-player game on the Nintendo Switch, meaning there is no requirement for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to enjoy the full experience. While having a subscription offers access to Nintendo Switch Online-exclusive features like cloud saves, it is not necessary to play the game or enjoy its core content, as is the case with most titles on the Switch platform.
