Only Murders in the Building: Why Nathan Lane Isn't Returning for Season 3

Hulu's acclaimed comedy series, Only Murders in the Building, will return for its highly anticipated third season this summer. However, fans will notice the absence of familiar faces as both Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan confirmed to Jamie Jirak of earlier this year that they would not be part of Season 3, despite playing significant roles in the first two seasons. Recently, more details emerged regarding Lane's absence.

Teddy Dimas, portrayed by Nathan Lane, will not be featured in the upcoming season of Only Murders in the Building due to a scheduling conflict. Lane revealed to Deadline that filming for the new season overlapped with his recent stint in the Broadway play Pictures From Home.

It is important to note that the character of Teddy has not been written out of the show. If a fourth season were to happen, the door would remain open for Lane's return. It is safe to assume the same applies to Amy Ryan's character as well.

Only Murders in the Building Season 3

Hulu has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated third season of Only Murders in the Building is set to premiere on August 8th.

Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building concluded with a murder that will be the central focus of Season 3. Paul Rudd joins the cast as a new character who tragically dies on stage during the opening night of a play. In the upcoming season, Mabel, Charles, and Oliver will delve into the investigation, determined to uncover the truth behind the incident. Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep was announced as part of the Season 3 cast, alongside Paul Rudd as the prominent new additions. While the specific role of Streep's character is not yet clear, it is likely that she is involved in the same stage production as Rudd's character.
