Peacemaker's Vigilante Returning Soon

Vigilante, the beloved DC antihero who gained popularity in the first season of James Gunn's Peacemaker series, will be making a comeback sooner than anticipated, according to Gunn's response to a fan on Threads yesterday. When questioned about the character's future appearances, Gunn hinted that Vigilante will make an appearance prior to the return of Peacemaker, suggesting a possible inclusion in Waller. This series will mark Viola Davis's return as Amanda Waller, a character she last portrayed in a cameo appearance in Black Adam. However, it's important to note that Gunn did not explicitly mention Waller, leaving open the possibility for Vigilante's involvement in other projects such as Creature Commandos or Superman: Legacy, or even unforeseen ventures.

This recent iteration of Vigilante in Peacemaker follows a previous live-action adaptation on Arrow, where the character was reimagined as an emotionally unstable former police officer and adversary to Black Canary, haunted by his troubled past.

Gunn simply responded with, "Probably before Peacemaker season 2," when asked about Vigilante's timeline for return. Below is a screenshot of his comment (thanks, Reddit).

Vigilante, whose real name is Adrian Chase, made his first appearance in New Teen Titans #23 in September 1982. During the production of The Suicide Squad, there was a rumor circulating that Idris Elba would portray this character, but it was later revealed that he would be playing Bloodsport instead.

In the Peacemaker series, the role of Vigilante is portrayed by Freddie Stroma, known for his work in Bridgerton. Stroma replaced Chris Conrad, who departed from the show due to creative differences with the producers.

"Stroma joined the project at a later stage. We had already filmed five-and-a-half episodes with another actor, who is incredibly talented. However, we had divergent perspectives on certain aspects, and he did not see himself continuing on the series in the long run," explained Gunn. "So we brought Freddie in when we were already five-and-a-half episodes in, and I reshot all of Vigilante's scenes... we re-shot. I directed all the scenes featuring Vigilante for those five and a half episodes."

As previously revealed by Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, the initial lineup for the DC Studios' "Gods and Monsters" slate will include films such as Superman: Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority. Additionally, HBO Max will feature television shows like Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated series based on Creature Commandos.

The intention is for actors to portray their characters across various mediums, including movies, TV shows, video games, and animation. This means that when the Creature Commandos series launches the new universe, it will include characters and actors who will make appearances in other projects in the future.

You can catch Peacemaker on HBO Max or purchase it on digital platforms, DVD, and Blu-ray.
