Secret Invasion Shows a Super Skrull In Action for the First Time

SPOILER WARNING: The following paragraphs contain light spoilers for the fourth episode of Secret Invasion. Please proceed with caution if you haven't caught up with the show yet. As hinted in the first trailer for Secret Invasion, the Marvel Cinematic Universe now officially features its first Super-Skrull. While Kl'rt is the most well-known Super-Skrull in Marvel's source material, the live-action adaptation seems to be taking a different approach. In the latest episode of the show, Gravik (portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir) exhibits powers that pay homage to other Marvel heroes.

Towards the end of the episode, a firefight ensues between Gravik and Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson). During this encounter, it is revealed that Gravik possesses healing abilities similar to those granted by Extremis technology. Additionally, he demonstrates the capability to shape-shift his arm into a tree-like branch, resembling the way Groot distorts his own arm.

In a previous episode, it was shown that Gravik had obtained genetic material from Groot, Cull Obsidian, Extremis soldiers, and Frost Beasts from Jotunheim. These characters differ significantly from the Super-Skrull's original powers, which allowed him to mimic the abilities of the Fantastic Four members.

Despite ongoing development on a reboot featuring the Fantastic Four, Marvel's First Family has yet to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"There are so many amazing actors out there, it's mind-boggling. It's pretty incredible. As I experienced with WandaVision, it's truly heartwarming to witness the immense dedication and engagement that fans have with this material. As a fan myself who has been reading Fantastic Four since childhood, I understand the passion and excitement surrounding these characters. Bringing them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a tremendous opportunity, and I am committed to doing justice to their portrayal. I appreciate the enthusiasm and urge fans to continue their support. However, I cannot provide any early casting announcements at this time."

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's beloved superspy, Nick Fury, makes a comeback in Secret Invasion, the limited series that premiered on Disney+ on June 21st. Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role in this new Marvel Studios series, where Fury is determined to uncover a Skrull invasion that has infiltrated influential positions within various governments and organizations worldwide. In Secret Invasion, Fury joins forces with allies Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). Additionally, James Rhodes, also known as War Machine, will make an appearance in a mysterious capacity. The series introduces new talents to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
