Star of Fan-Favorite Max Series to Exit During Season 3

The upcoming third season of The Sex Lives of College Girls is poised to undergo some significant changes. The announcement on Monday revealed that Reneé Rapp, who held a series regular role, will be departing the show. Over its first two seasons on Max, the series has garnered immense popularity. However, Rapp will reprise her character, Leighton Murray, for "a few episodes" in the third season before bidding farewell. Notably, Rapp has recently embarked on a music career, having released her first EP titled Everything to Everyone in the fall of 2022. Her debut album, Snow Angel, is scheduled for release in August, ahead of her inaugural international tour. Although Season 3 of The Sex Lives of College Girls won't be Rapp's final onscreen performance, as she is set to reprise her role as Regina George in the film adaptation of Mean Girls: The Musical.

Rapp expressed her sentiments about departing the show on social media, saying, "College girls moved me out to L.A. and introduced me to some of my favorite people. Two and a half years later — it's given me y'all and this community." She also thanked Mindy, Justin, and everyone at Max for believing in her. Rapp acknowledged the significance of her portrayal of Leighton, emphasizing how it has positively impacted her life and self-acceptance. She added, "I hope she gave y'all a little bit of that too. She's such a tiny part of representation, but even the tiny parts count." Rapp expressed her love for the character and her excitement for the upcoming season, eagerly anticipating the audience's response to what they have in store for Leighton and the rest of the girls.

Rapp expressed how the character grows more authentic and true to herself, particularly through her journey of self-discovery and coming out.
