Setting Up the Killer in The Afterparty

Ahead of the upcoming second season of The Afterparty,'s Chris Killian had a conversation with creator Chris Miller about the process of crafting a captivating murder mystery.

"You have to begin with that," Miller emphasized during our interview, which you can find above. "I believe that's truly the only way to create a truly gripping murder. You can't delay until you're like, 'Oh no!' It has to begin with devising a distinctive method for one person to murder another and successfully evade detection. From there, you need to consider how to cover it up and contemplate how you'll conceal the crime. Additionally, you have to think about all the characters connected to the murder, their relationships, and the secrets they hold, which make them appear as potential suspects. They must have motives, but they should also have their own separate stories, all centered around this murder. Otherwise, it would feel completely arbitrary. The ultimate goal is to provide a highly satisfying ending where viewers can't help but exclaim, 'Of course! Why didn't I see it?' That's when murder mysteries work best."
