Wednesday, Jenny Ortega Earn Emmy Nominations

Netflix's hit show Wednesday, which reimagines The Addams Family as a captivating murder mystery with a Riverdale-style twist, has garnered a pair of prestigious Emmy Award nominations. The series, helmed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, acclaimed producers of Smallville, has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Additionally, the talented Jenna Ortega has received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. The Emmy Awards ceremony is slated to air on Fox in September, pending any potential disruptions due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild strike, which could potentially affect the schedule as the Writers Guild of America strike did after it began in May.

Jenna Ortega and Pedro Pascal, renowned for their roles in Wednesday and The Last of Us, respectively, have made history with their nominations today. Ortega's nomination marks the first time an actor of Latin descent has been recognized in their category since 2008, while Pascal's nomination is the first in his category since 1999. The Last of Us, like Wednesday, has experienced great success, securing a spot on the Outstanding Drama list and earning nominations for guest actors Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett.

When Wednesday debuted on Netflix in December 2022, it made an instant impact, becoming the second-most-watched streaming premiere of all time, only trailing the fourth season of Stranger Things. Although a second season is in the works, the ongoing Writers Guild strike has cast uncertainty over the show's production timeline. Jenna Ortega's portrayal on Wednesday has received widespread acclaim, but her public comments during press appearances supporting the sixth Scream movie stirred controversy among some crew members. Ortega expressed her opinions on the writing and took credit for numerous on-set rewrites, which led to a strained relationship with certain members of the production team.

According to its official synopsis, Wednesday is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Netflix's highly popular series Wednesday boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Gwendoline Christie as Principal Larissa Weems, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin, Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Naomi J Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus, Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott, and features guest appearances by Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to watch the thrilling first season of Wednesday, currently available for streaming on Netflix.
