Wild Card Football Announced, Features Colin Kaepernick as Cover Athlete

Saber Interactive has announced the upcoming release of Wild Card Football, an arcade-style football video game scheduled to launch in the fall. In recent years, there has been a noticeable absence of arcade football titles, with EA's Madden series dominating the genre. Saber aims to change this trend with the introduction of their new franchise in just a few months.

Unveiled alongside an initial trailer, Wild Card Football is part of the "Playground Sports" brand, which is also associated with the NBA 2K Playgrounds series. The game is described as offering "7-on-7 pigskin action with explosive moves, style, and energy." As an arcade-style football game, it allows players to perform special moves, abilities, and other fantastical powers not typically found in simulation-like titles.

One noteworthy aspect of Wild Card Football is its official licensing by the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association), granting it the rights to feature some of the biggest names in football. The game prominently includes former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who is featured prominently on the box art alongside players such as Justin Jefferson, Patrick Mahomes, TJ Watt, and Jalen Hurts.

"We embarked on a mission to deliver a thrilling and exhilarating experience that is all about pure adrenaline! Wild Card Football accomplishes just that by placing players in the shoes of their beloved pro athletes and amping up the intensity with fantastic new gameplay elements," expressed Tim Willits, the head of Saber Interactive, in a corresponding statement. "Our partnership with the NFLPA and OneTeam has played a pivotal role in bringing our vision to fruition. Their expertise and support have been invaluable in revitalizing the football genre. We're eagerly anticipating fans' excitement as they assemble their dream teams and compete against other squads."
